Removing the barriers that prevent half the world from accessing capital.
The Challenge
Women represent 50% of the world's population but receive less than 3% of institutional investment. The gender finance gap in SME lending stands at $1.7T (IFC). Women own 35% of formal businesses but receive only 7% of bank lending.
BwB's research demonstrates that gender-diverse companies outperform peers financially. We integrate a gender lens across all project recommendations and develop specific gender-focused finance structures with UNDP and UN Women.
Our Approach
Prioritise incorporating a gender lens into all project recommendations ensuring women's voices and considerations are adequately reflected in project design and financial structures.
Partner with international organisations to develop funding mechanisms for Social Innovation Platforms designing multi-asset financing structures that address complex developmental challenges.
Build capacity among female entrepreneurs through mentorship programmes as demonstrated through our partnership with UN Women's Entrepreneurship Accelerator programme.
BwB partnered with the UN Development Programme to develop funding mechanisms for Social Innovation Platforms across Thailand, Indonesia, and Pakistan. Work included a feasibility study, multi-asset financing structure design, evaluation framework, financial modelling, and funder engagement plan.
