Pioneering the place-based finance that decarbonises entire neighbourhoods.
The Challenge
Buildings account for 40% of global energy consumption and 33% of CO₂ emissions. Retrofitting existing buildings to meet net-zero standards is one of the most capital-intensive challenges in the energy transition.
Traditional project-by-project financing approaches are too fragmented and expensive. BwB's RENEW Districts framework takes a holistic, place-based approach bundling multiple building and infrastructure assets into a single investable vehicle.
Our Approach
BwB has developed the RENEW Districts framework a holistic set of principles for successfully structuring place-based decarbonisation models. RENEW integrates deep building retrofit, renewable energy, waste management, green infrastructure, smart mobility, and community assets into a single neighbourhood-level investment vehicle.
Work closely with local governments to develop bankable built environment projects, with particular expertise in developing innovative financing solutions for large-scale retrofits.
Our Modelling Centre of Excellence develops market-leading models that leverage innovative financial solutions for built environment projects quantifying savings, co-benefits, and investor returns.
Bridge project funding gaps using blended finance combining grants, concessional loans, and commercial capital to attract private investment at neighbourhood scale.

Track Record
BwB developed and launched the RENEW Districts framework in partnership with West Midlands Combined Authority, Innovate UK, London Borough of Hounslow, and City Science. The framework integrates deep building retrofit, renewable energy, waste management, green infrastructure, smart mobility, and community assets into a single investable neighbourhood vehicle pioneering place-based decarbonisation finance across European cities.
BwB collaborated with the City of Marseille, MODUS AEdifiCANDI, Davos Baukultur Alliance, and 3Ci (Cities Commission for Climate Investment) to develop a place-based decarbonisation strategy for residential and commercial retrofit in the city, using the RENEW Districts approach to bundle multiple asset types into a single bankable structure.
